Fire Engine 38 Urban Green Infrastructure

Client: The City of Philadelphia Fire Department and Cecil Baker Architects
Location: Philadelphia, PA

Meliora provided full site engineering and permitting services to design a new fire station for the City of Philadelphia Fire Department, on a portion of the existing Disston Park in Northeast Philadelphia. The existing parcel consisted of compacted lawn, sparse trees, and old, cracked asphalt paths. To meet and exceed the city stormwater requirements, the project includes a large green roof expanding over a majority of the new building, two bioretention areas that capture over 1.5 inches of rainfall from the new driveway apron, as well as the new asphalt parking lot, and landscape restoration for the remainder of the site, including new trees and native grasses.
