Wayne Junction Substation Rehabilitation

Client: Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA)
Location: Philadelphia, PA

Meliora is currently a subconsultant to HNTB to rehabilitate the Wayne Junction Substation. This essential electrical facility provides power to half of SEPTA’s regional rail network. Located in North Philadelphia, the substation was constructed in 1931 and has been in continuous operation ever since. Most of the original components are still being used, and are long past their useful life.

Rehabilitation of the substation will allow SEPTA to ensure that the regional rail network continues to provide reliable, high-quality transportation in the Philadelphia metropolitan area for many years to come.

Meliora is providing a structural assessment of the following components of Wayne Junction Substation:
•   Existing Oil House
•   Outdoor steel gantries, concrete foundations and pads
•   Existing Substation building and breaker room.

Meliora is also providing plans and specifications for structural repairs of the masonry walls and lintels, and for the replacement of the windows, doors and roof membranes. All repairs and rehabilitation will be completed while the substation is kept in operation.
